The Glyph Blackbox PRO RAID 48TB USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Desktop Hard Drive is a two-bay hardware RAID desktop drive that stores 48TB on two 24TB enterprise-class drives and connects to your computer over USB-C.
It is the USB-C version of the Glyph Blackbox PRO RAID, built for video editors, photographers, and broadcast teams who need large, fast local storage. You pick RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD, or SPAN on the unit, with no RAID software to install.
The drive runs from an external power supply and ships formatted for macOS with Time Machine support. It can be reformatted for Windows.
Glyph BBPR48000RAID Features
- Two 24TB enterprise drives. The 48TB capacity comes from two 24TB enterprise-class 7,200 RPM drives in one two-bay enclosure. That is room for many hours of high-bitrate camera files, though RAID 1 mirroring leaves about 24TB usable.
- Hardware RAID without software. RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD, and SPAN are chosen on the drive itself, so the computer needs no RAID software. RAID 0 favors speed and full capacity, while RAID 1 keeps a mirrored copy and halves the usable space.
- USB-C connection with speeds up to 550 MB/s. The BBPR48000RAID connects over a USB-C port listed as USB 3.1 Gen 2, with speeds up to 550 MB/s. That suits 4K editing and offloads on current laptops and workstations, though real speed depends on the host port and RAID mode.
- Quiet fan and aluminum heatsink shell. Glyph describes an intelligent quiet fan, and the rear panel shows the fan grille. The aluminum shell works as a heatsink, which helps hold transfer speeds steady during long copies in an edit suite without loud fan noise.
- Ready for Mac, with Windows after reformatting. The drive ships formatted for macOS and is Time Machine ready. Windows systems can use it after you reformat it. Mixed Mac and Windows shops should plan a file system choice such as exFAT before loading project data.
- External power and a rear power switch. Two large drives need more power than a USB-C port supplies, so the drive runs from an included external power supply into the DC-in jack. The rear panel adds an on/off switch, so plan for a nearby outlet at the desk or shelf.
- Removable rugged cover. The box includes a removable rugged cover that protects the enclosure when you carry the drive between studio and location. Take it off when the drive stays on a desk, and put it back for transport or shipping.
- Both USB-C and USB-A cables included. The package lists a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A cable, so the drive connects to newer USB-C ports and older USB-A ports. Dealers also list it as compatible with USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 3 ports.
Where the BBPR48000RAID Fits
Post-production editing: Use the 48TB capacity as a project drive for 4K and higher footage, with RAID 0 for speed during the edit.
Backup of finished projects: Set RAID 1 to mirror the two drives and keep a redundant copy of completed work.
Location and DIT offload: Carry the drive in its rugged cover and offload camera cards to a drive that connects through one USB-C cable.
