The Glyph Blackbox PRO 18TB USB-C 7200 RPM Enterprise Desktop Hard Drive is an 18TB external hard drive built around a 7,200 RPM enterprise-class internal drive, housed in an aluminum enclosure with a removable silicone cover for backup, archive, and everyday media storage.
The BBPR18000ENT connects over USB-C (USB 3.2, 10Gb) and is compatible with USB 3.1, USB 3.0, and Thunderbolt 3 ports. It ships formatted for macOS and Time Machine, and you can reformat it for Windows. Glyph aims the Blackbox PRO line at filmmakers, photographers, and music producers.
It runs from an external power adapter and has a power switch on the rear panel next to the DC input and the USB-C port. The enclosure is fan-less, so the aluminum shell does the cooling.
Glyph Blackbox PRO 18TB Features
- 18TB of enterprise-class capacity. The BBPR18000ENT holds 18TB on a 7,200 RPM enterprise-class internal hard drive. That is enough room for large camera-original libraries, project archives, and full-system backups on one desktop unit, without splitting your media across several smaller drives.
- USB-C with USB 3.2 10Gb interface. The single USB-C port runs at USB 3.2 10Gb speeds and is compatible with USB 3.1, USB 3.0, and Thunderbolt 3 ports. Both a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A cable are included, so you can connect to newer and older computers.
- Up to 260 MB/s transfer speed. Glyph rates the Blackbox PRO line at up to 260 MB/s in its feature text, and its spec table lists up to 280 MB/s. That suits offloading footage and editing from proxies, though a spinning drive will not match an SSD for random access.
- Aluminum shell that works as a heatsink. The aluminum enclosure draws heat away from the drive to help it hold its speed during long copies and backups. Because the unit is fan-less, there is no fan noise to pick up in a quiet edit suite or studio.
- Removable rugged silicone cover. A rugged external silicone cover wraps the aluminum enclosure and comes off when you want a bare desktop look. The cover adds grip and protection when the drive moves between studios and locations. Glyph does not publish a drop rating on the product page.
- Ready for Mac, reformattable for Windows. The drive is formatted for macOS and works with Time Machine out of the box. Windows users can reformat it, which erases the drive, so it fits mixed Mac and PC facilities once you pick a file system that both platforms can read.
- Rear power switch and external power adapter. The drive is powered by an included external power adapter instead of bus power, which suits a high-capacity 7,200 RPM mechanism. A physical power switch on the rear panel lets you shut the drive down without unplugging cables.
- Three-year warranty with data recovery. Glyph covers the Blackbox PRO with 3 years of full hardware coverage, including cables, plus 2 years of Level-1 data recovery and 1 year of advance replacement. Check Glyph's warranty terms for the exact conditions that apply to each benefit.
