The Ashton Bentley VX 4K60 USB-C and HDMI Video Extender Kit with Analog Audio Out is a two-box extender kit that sends USB-C or HDMI video and audio from a table or lectern to a display, projector, or video bar over one Cat6a/Cat7 cable.

The VXT transmitter is a 2:1 switcher with locking USB-C and HDMI inputs, and the VXR receiver adds an AUX HDMI input, one HDMI output, and an analog stereo audio output. Video runs up to 4K60 4:4:4 over distances up to 35m (100ft).

The kit needs no drivers and works with Mac or Windows laptops. The VXR RS-232 port and the optional Tablebox Touch Panel provide control, and each unit sits on a standard Ashton Bentley back plate for mounting under furniture or in cabinets.

Ashton Bentley VX Features

  • USB-C and HDMI in one 2:1 switcher. The VXT transmitter takes a locking USB-C input and a locking HDMI input, so a presenter can plug in a modern laptop or an older HDMI source without adapters. Both inputs feed one Cat6a/Cat7 link to the VXR receiver.
  • 4K60 4:4:4 video over a single cable. The kit passes video up to 4K at 60Hz with 4:4:4 color, and also handles 1080p at 50/60Hz and 4K at 24/30Hz. Color depth is 8-bit at 4K60 and up to 12-bit at 1080p60, and HDR is supported.
  • Runs up to 35m (100ft) on Cat6a or Cat7. A 10m Cat6a cable is in the box and the link can stretch to 35m for both 1080p and 4K. The cable matters: Ashton Bentley recommends CAT6A U/FTP at a minimum and warns against tool-less field-terminated connectors.
  • Remote power from the receiver. Only the VXR needs mains. Its 24V power supply feeds the VXT through the Cat6a/Cat7 interconnect, so you do not need a power outlet at the table, lectern, or wherever the laptop connects.
  • Auto-switching with an AUX HDMI input on the receiver. The VXR has its own AUX 1 HDMI input for a conferencing codec or local presenter device. Auto-switching is on by default and shows the last source connected. With no sources on the VXT, the VXR falls back to AUX 1.
  • Embedded audio plus a separate analog stereo output. The HDMI output carries embedded audio from the selected source, including LPCM, Dolby Digital/Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS formats. The VXR also has a Phoenix stereo analog output that switches with the video, so you can feed an amplifier and speakers.
  • Optional 100W laptop charging at the VXT. Adding Ashton Bentley's separate BX/VX USB-C Charging PSU (100W) lets the VXT charge a connected USB-C laptop with up to 100W. The result depends on the quality and length of the USB-C cable, and the PSU is not included in this kit.
  • RS-232 control and Tablebox touch-panel support. On Gen2 units the VXR RS-232 port accepts commands to switch inputs, query status, check firmware, and set auto-switching. The VXT ABNET port connects the optional Tablebox Touch Panel for three-button manual selection at the table.

Where the VX Fits

Boardrooms and meeting tables: Install the VXT under a table or in a lectern for laptop connections, then run the cable to a display or video bar at the front of the room.

Video conferencing: Connect a USB-C or HDMI laptop at the table and a conferencing system to the AUX 1 input. The VXR sends the active source to one HDMI output.

Projection rooms: Send USB-C or HDMI presentations to a ceiling projector up to 35m (100ft) away. The Cat6a/Cat7 cable is easier to route than long HDMI runs.

Lecterns and classrooms: The locking USB-C and HDMI connectors and the metal back plate suit furniture and cabinet installs where cables get tugged.

How to Control the VX

  • RS-232: The VXR 3-pin Phoenix RS-232 port accepts text commands ending in a carriage return: SwUSBC, SwHDMI, SwAUX1, STATUS, FW, and AUTOx. STATUS returns a four-character reply showing the USB-C, HDMI, and AUX state plus the auto-switching state.
  • Tablebox Touch Panel: The optional Tablebox Touch Panel (900-00509) connects to the VXT ABNET port and provides three buttons for USB-C, HDMI, and AUX 1 selection on Gen2 units.
  • Automatic switching: Auto-switching is on by default and shows the most recently connected source.

The manual documents the RS-232 command list only. It does not list specific third-party control systems.

Why not buy this Ashton Bentley VX USB-C and HDMI Extender Kit today?

What resolution does the Ashton Bentley VX extender kit support?

Yes. It supports 4K at 60Hz with 4:4:4 color. It also passes 1080p at 50/60Hz and 4K at 24/30Hz. Color depth is 8-bit at 4K60 and up to 12-bit at 1080p60, and HDR is supported.

How far can the VX kit extend USB-C and HDMI?

Yes. It reaches 35m (100ft) at 1080p and 4K over a single Cat6a or Cat7 cable. Ashton Bentley does not guarantee operation beyond 35m. A 10m cable comes in the box.

What cable should I use between the VXT and VXR?

Yes. Use the supplied 10m cable where possible. For longer runs, Ashton Bentley says CAT6A U/FTP is the minimum, and the link runs above 10 Gb/s. It advises avoiding tool-less field-terminated connectors.

Does the VXT transmitter need its own power supply?

No. The VXT is powered from the VXR over the Cat6a/Cat7 link, and the supplied 24V supply plugs into the VXR. A separate USB-C charging PSU is only needed if you want laptop charging.

Can the VX kit charge a USB-C laptop?

Yes. With the optional BX/VX USB-C Charging PSU (100W), part 900-00586, connected to the VXT, it provides up to 100W, depending on the USB-C cable's quality and length. The PSU is not part of this kit.

How does the VX choose which source to display?

Yes. Auto-switching is on by default, so the VXR shows the last device connected to USB-C, HDMI, or AUX 1. To override it, reconnect the source you want. Removing all VXT sources switches the VXR to AUX 1.

Can I control the VX from a control system or touch panel?

Yes. On Gen2 units the VXR RS-232 port accepts commands such as SwUSBC, SwHDMI, SwAUX1, STATUS, FW, and AUTOx. The optional Tablebox Touch Panel, part 900-00509, connects to the VXT ABNET port.

What is included in the VX USB-C and HDMI extender kit?

Yes. The kit includes the VXT transmitter, the VXR receiver, a 10m Cat6a cable, the VXR power supply, and a country-specific mains lead. USB-C and HDMI input cables and the charging PSU are sold separately.

Does the 900-00555 kit include USB-C and HDMI input cables?

No. Ashton Bentley lists the 2.5m locking USB-C cable (115-00065) and 2.8m locking HDMI cable (115-00066) as optional accessories. Standard USB-C and HDMI cables also work, but they lack the locking connector.

What warranty covers the Ashton Bentley VX kit?

Yes. Ashton Bentley's standard warranty is three years, return to base, for defects in materials, workmanship, and functionality. Questions? Call 833-WOLFPACK (833-965-3722).
