Ashton Bentley UX Features
- Two USB-B host ports for a laptop and a room PC. Host A and Host B each take a USB-B cable, so the room PC or NUC and a guest laptop both stay connected. The UX decides which one owns the peripherals, which removes the cable swapping that usually happens at a BYOM table.
- Three USB-A device ports for conferencing gear. Device ports 1, 2, and 3 connect a video bar, camera, speaker, or microphone. Each port supplies up to 5V at 0.9A, with 1.2A in total across all three unless the optional 24V power supply is fitted.
- Dynamic 5V power switching on the device ports. When the UX changes host it briefly turns the 5V off on the device ports. Some video bars only leave device mode when USB power drops, and ordinary hubs keep power on, so this helps the bar detect the new laptop.
- Control mode with the DX2 Room Hub. Connected to a DX2 over ABNET, the DX2 switches the USB devices from the room PC to the laptop along with the video. The UX takes its power over that ABNET link, so no separate power supply is needed in this mode.
- Standalone mode that switches on laptop detection. Without a DX2, the UX moves the USB devices to the laptop when it senses a laptop USB connection and returns them to the room PC when the laptop is unplugged. This mode needs the optional 900-00585 power supply.
- Status LEDs for each host and device port. A red PWR LED shows power, and green A SLCT and B SLCT LEDs show which host is selected, flashing when a host is connected but not selected. Blue LEDs show 5V active on device ports 1, 2, and 3.
- Two ABNET ports and a 24V local power jack. ABNET 1 connects to the DX2 and ABNET 2 loops on to further ABNET devices. A local 24V DC jack takes the optional power supply. The manual warns that an incorrect supply, including the older 5V type, voids the warranty.
- Metal enclosure with a micro USB service port. The black metal housing operates from 32 to 104 degrees F and carries ESD protection of 8kV air-gap and 4kV contact discharge. A micro USB service port on a second plate is used for firmware upgrades.

How to Control the UX
- DX2 control mode: The DX2 Room Hub switches the USB devices to the laptop over an ABNET RJ45 cable from the DX2 ABNET port to UX ABNET 1 or 2, and powers the UX.
- Standalone mode: The UX senses a laptop USB connection and switches the devices automatically, then returns them to the room PC when the laptop disconnects. No configuration is required.

Does the UX BYOM Smart Switch need a power supply?
Yes, in standalone mode. It needs the optional 24V power supply, part 900-00585, which is not included. In control mode the UX is powered from a DX2 Room Hub over the ABNET cable instead.
