EXAMPLE: If you want to switch input 8 to output 1, 8, 16, the RS232 command would be 8x1&8&16. and notice the command has a period (.) at the end of the string. The matrix even replies "OK" when the right command is received and shows "ERR" when receiving a wrong command.

END USER: If you are an end user and want to have a whole-house control system from any of the above 3rd party control houses but your budget can't support the price you were quoted, do the following:

  1. Call us for a quote
  2. Once you get our quote call a 3rd party control reseller or installer in your area and tell them "Here is the hardware I want to use, please give me a quote on writing the software and installing all of the hardware at my location." You usually can save $1,000s on larger systems.
CAVEAT: We are not certified by any of the above 3rd party control systems companies nor have the necessary hardware to verify, troubleshoot and support the 3rd party writing of the code. We do warranty, though, that the RS232 script in the above RS232 Users Manual has and will work to control the matrix directly.

Q: Does this HDMI Matrix Switch support remote IR from remote TVs?
No. We recommend using RF remote controls.

Q: I see the the optional HDMI extenders come with 2-remote IR cables, will the remote IR work with this matrix?
No, the cables are used when the application has one source and one widescreen. They can't be used with this matrix and need to be set aside and not used.

Q: Can I use unpowered HDMI over CAT6/6 extenders with this matrix?
We don't recommend them with our matrices, or anyone elses, due to them consuming power from the matrix and the matrices are not designed to power many external devices.

Consider the example of 9 - HDMI balun transmitters that need 0.5a amp each to power it times 9 or 4.5 amps the matrix would have to supply. The power supply of this matrix is rated at 12v at 3.5 amp so in that example the matrix would probably break down and your warranty may be voided. Q: Would I be able to used an HDMI connection for audio only going to my audio receiver. This way I could get True HD Audio. Will this output work how I am describing?
Yes, provided you do not turn On a display device that might be connected to the Output of your audio receiver. Some older displays do not have the ability to decode anything other than 2 channel stereo and when connected to a receiver via HDMI.

Q: I have a PC with HDMI out, how do I set it up?
When your computer boots up, it looks for an EDID (extended display identification data) from the display to tell it what monitor is connected and what resolution to output. During boot up of the computer you should have ONLY one output selected to one input at a time so that the computer gets the EDID of the display that is selected. If you have multiple outputs selected to one computer, the computer will read the EDID of the last output selected to it. If all your displays are the same, or all displays are capable of running at the same resolution then this step does not matter.

Q: How does the EDID learning function work?
The EDID learning function is only necessary whenever you encounter any display on the HDMI output port that cannot play audio and video properly. Because the HDMI source devices and displays may have various level of capability in playing audio and video, the general principle is that the source device will output the lowest standards in audio format and video resolutions to be commonly acceptable among all HDMI displays.

In this case, a 720p stereo HDMI signal output would be probably the safest choice. Nevertheless, the user can force the matrix to learn the EDID of the lowest capable HDMI display among others to make sure all displays are capable to play the HDMI signals normally.
