This rack mountable 8x8 Component Video Matrix Switcher is designed to work as a switcher for up to 8 video sources going to up to 8 displays. It competes with 8X8 component video matrix switchers that sell for >$2,000. Because it is a matrix switcher, it allows any input to be routed to any output; or the same input to be routed to all outputs or any combination.

This 8X8 matrix switcher was designed as a 8X8 "composite video and audio" (with yellow, red & white connectors) switcher using 300MHz video amps on all inputs and outputs. It works very well as a 8X8 "component video" matrix switcher because of those amps but does not switch audio as those inputs / outputs are used for the other 2 cables needed for the 3 wire red - green - blue component signal.

This matrix switch can upgraded to an 8X16 and 8X24 but with the below caveats. The prices are above and include the appropriate amount ( 8 for an 8X16 and 16 for an 8X24 ) of front end 1x2 component splitters, the required 3 foot component cables and one or 2 more of these matrix switchers. This 8X8 matrix switcher was designed as a 8X8 "composite video and audio" (with yellow, red & white connectors) switcher using 300MHz video amps on all inputs and outputs.

It works very well as a 8X8 "component video" matrix switcher because of those amps but does not switch audio as those inputs / outputs are used for the other 2 cables needed for the 3 wire red - green - blue component signal.

The colors of the connectors will not be matched also. You will have to hook the red video cable up with the red input, blue video cable up with the white input and the green video cable wires to the yellow input as this is the sync cable. If you change the order it may not work correctly.

We do not warranty this unit with long cheap component video cables. Do not use this 8X8 matrix switcher with long runs of RG-59, or similar, high capacitance cables. Only use our component video cables or good RG-6 quad shield cables. We also recommend only soldered connectors and not crimp-on, due to their high capacitance, if you are making your own cables.

This component matrix switcher is capable of switching 8 component signals only (no audio) between eight sources and eight displays with compatible inputs. A maximum bandwidth of 300MHz will support a sharp and highly defined video. Because it is a matrix switcher, it allows any input to be routed to any output; or the same input to be routed to all outputs or any combination.

It completely eliminates the need to constantly move around video input and output cables. RS-232 control allows the switcher to be controlled by a computerized system such as HTPC and in this case eliminates the need for an infrared remote control.

Note 3: Some buyers have noted a slight green tinge to the video that may be minimized by the HDTV's TINT control. You may be able to minimize this by setting the TV's MENU to STANDARD or MOVIE, and turn off all enhancements in the TV menus as they add nothing to the picture.

All TV's should be calibrated whether you buy this device or not. Use our AVIA II calibration DVD to set the video to its optimum value.

Note 4: Some buyers have noted a mis-colorization and streaking of Guide & MENU's from cable and satellite boxes. This anomaly may show up with high definition video and cannot be adjusted out. Remember, this is an 8X8 component video matrix switch for <$500 and may be perfect for bars and restaurant but may not be for homes where the highest picture quality is necessary. Most customers say this is a minor issue because of the <$500 price but do not buy it if you need a perfect picture. Buy the below true 8X8 component matrix switcher.

Note 5: The switcher can't be stacked with another to make a 16X16 matrix switcher. If you need more inputs buy another and wire them in parallel. If you need a 16X16 see our 16X16 component matrix switcher.

Note 6: One must remember that this is a composite matrix switcher, not component, and even though the amps are 300 MHz there are other factors that determine picture quality. If you want the utmost in picture quality on an 8X8 component matrix switcher then you should buy one dedicated to component switching. If you have a budget issue and or in an environment, like a bar or restaurant, where a step down in picture quality would not be noticeable than this is for you. We have hundreds in the above environment! Do not buy it if you need a perfect picture!
