is a true matrix switcher and allows any of 4 inputs to be routed to any of 4 outputs; or the same input to be routed to all outputs, or any combination. That is 256 unique HDMI switching combinations. The size of the matrix is only 1U high & rack mount ears are included. The 4-inputs and 4-outputs are female HDMI connectors as the above picture shows. The 4X4 HDMI Router provides built-in EDID management for recognizing multiple display formats and sources.
This 4x4 HDMI Router switches quickly with no flashing as its design to avoid the flashing, as seen by other HDMI matrix switchers, it presents EDID which represents all the connected displays. This eliminates the source trying to adjust the resolution dynamically to fit the TVs which limits the flexibility but increases usability.

NOTE: Optionally, you can purchase above our special priced separate and companion HDMI to a single CAT6 Extender sets for only $80 each (2D & 3D) and have an 4x4 HDMI matrix switcher over CAT6 for <$800! The HDMI Extenders come with a transmitter, receiver and 2 - AC adapters and do not support remote IR.
The 4x4 HDMI Router has 4 standard HDMI inputs and 4 standard HDMI outputs. An Intelligent EDID learning function is added to increase its compatibility to any HDTV, unlike cheaper units that you have to guess their compatibility. Intelligent EDID learning is only found in professional HDMI switchers and never less than $750.
Control of this switcher can be managed via its front-panel control, IR remote control, RS-232, or our optional RS-232 to Ethernet Converter. The RS-232 to Ethernet Converter allows control of the unit from anywhere in the world given you know how to write RS-232 code and have the correct serial Ethernet hardware. The 4x4 HDMI Matrix Switchers RS-232 control allows the switcher to also be controlled by 3rd party control systems like Crestron and Control4 and many other computerized software/hardware control systems.
NOTE: 24AWG or thicker (lower AWG number) HDMI cables are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for best performance. Some devices will require thicker gauge, category 2 cables to work with this switch. For runs up to 15ft, use 24AWG. For runs of 20ft or more, use 22AWG HDMI cables (which is thicker than 24AWG.)
This matrix features a set of 6- EDID modes in addition to allowing any input source to receive a copy of the EDID information of any selected output. Changing the EDID settings may be necessary when connecting to or from a surround sound receiver or for passing 3D content derived from a cable or satellite set top box if the default EDID has problems.
Using one of the the internal EDID modes can also speed up the switching process with cable or satellite and many other sources.
If you use one of the internal EDID settings the source device will see the matrices EDID you chose instead of the display's EDID and overrides the display's own EDID information. If your display is not capable of accepting the video resolution or audio type selected, you may not have audio and/or video. In this case choose another more compatible EDID or use the default EDID.

Q: Can I use unpowered HDMI over CAT5/6 extenders with this matrix?
A: We don't recommend them with our matrices, or anyone elses, due to them consuming power from the matrix and the matrices are not designed to power many external devices.
Consider the example of 4 - HDMI balun transmitters that need 0.5a amp each to power it times 4 or 2 amps the matrix would have to supply. The power supply of this matrix is rated at 12v at 3.5 amps so in that example the matrix would probably break down and your warranty may be voided. See the companion powered HDMI extenders in the above OPTIONS that have 2-AC adapters.
HDMI cables with built-in boosters also consume power also and we don't recommend more than 2, if at all. You must use our low power ones, also.
Q: I see the the HDMI extenders come with 2-remote IR cables, will the remote IR work with this matrix?
A: No, the cables are used when the application has one source and one widescreen. They can't be used with this matrix and need to be set aside and not used.
Q: I've made EDID changes but don't see an affect.
A: When you make changes to the EDID, you need to Press the DEMO button to set EDID mode. This forces the display to relock onto the source.
Q: Would I be able to use an HDMI connection for audio only going to my audio receiver. This way I could get True HD Audio. Will this output work how I am describing?
A: Yes, provided you do not turn On a display device that might be connected to the Output of your audio receiver. Some older displays do not have the ability to decode anything other than 2 channel stereo and when connected to a receiver via HDMI.
Q: I have a PC with HDMI out, how do I set it up?
A: When your computer boots up, it looks for an EDID (extended display identification data) from the display to tell it what monitor is connected and what resolution to output. During boot up of the computer you should have ONLY one output selected to one input at a time so that the computer gets the EDID of the display that is selected. If you have multiple outputs selected to one computer, the computer will read the EDID of the last output selected to it. If all your displays are the same, or all displays are capable of running at the same resolution then this step does not matter.
Q: This product has CEC, what is CEC?
A: This product features CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) allowing your HDTV's remote to manage up to ten devices that are connected via HDMI (such as Blu-ray Disc players or home theater receivers) with no special programming needed. For example, you can use your remote to turn on your TV, your player, and your receiver at the same time, and adjust the system volume with one button. All devices must support CEC, though. Most major TV manufacturers now support CEC, and an HDTV with HDMI 1.3 will likely have the technology. Manufacturers call it by different names; LG Electronics, for instance, calls its implementation SimpleLink, whereas Toshiba calls its version CE-Link. Interoperability isn't mandatory, so some manufacturers limit control to their own products; Sony, for one, allows only Sony-to-Sony communication.
