User Adjustable Extended Display Identification (EDID) Data is a VESA standard data format that contains basic information about a HDTV and its capabilities, including vendor information, maximum image size, color characteristics, factory pre-set timings, frequency range limits, and character strings for the monitor name and serial number. The information is stored in the display and is used to communicate with the system through a Display Data Channel (DDC ), which sites between the monitor and the source device. The system uses this information for configuration purposes, so the HDTV and system can work together.

EDID. What is it and what is it used for? Under normal circumstances, a source device (digital and analog ) will require information from a connected device/display to know what resolutions and features are available. The source can then cater its output to send only resolutions and features that are compatible with the attached device/display. This information is called EDID (Extended Display Information Data) and a source device can only accept and read one EDID from a connected device/display.

Firstly, it is important to note that each source device can only output one video/audio signal type. This includes resolutions and timings. When multiple devices/displays are used, such as with the HDMI Matrix, it is important to use devices/displays that have similar or compatible resolutions/features. This will ensure that the single video/audio signal produced by the source device is accepted by all of the connected output devices/displays.

The user has the option, through the EDID management window, to choose how the unit will manage the EDID from multiple HDMI devices/displays. Therefore the user has some control over the resolutions/features that the source devices will output. The HDMI Matrix has a multiple EDID management modes that will control how the EDID information from multiple devices/displays are combined, ignored, and routed.

Q: Does this matrix support 1920x1200 DVI from a 1920x1200 DVI-PC to 1920x1200 DVI-monitors with an HDMI to DVI converter?
A:
Yes.

Q: Does the matrix have an RS232 input?
A:
Yes

Q: You have a great selection of 4x4 HDMI Matrix Switchers, do you have a comparison of them?
A:
Yes, see our UNDER $350 4X4 HDMI MATRIX COMPARISON to help you make a decision.

Q: Can I use unpowered HDMI over CAT6/6 extenders with this 4X4 HDMI Matrix Switch?
A:
We don't recommend them with our matrices, or anyone else's, due to them consuming power from the matrix and the matrices are not designed to power many external devices.

Consider the example of 9 - HDMI balun transmitters that need 0.5a amp each to power it times 4 or 2 amps the matrix would have to supply. The power supply of this matrix is rated at 12v at 3.5 amp so in that example the matrix would probably break down and your warranty may be voided. See the companion powered HDMI extenders in the above OPTIONS that have 2-AC adapters.

HDMI cables with built-in boosters also consume power also and we don't recommend more than 2, if at all. You must use our low power ones, also.

Q: I see the HDMI extenders come with 2-remote IR cables, will the remote IR work with this matrix?
A:
No, the cables are used when the application has one source and one widescreen. They can't be used with this matrix and need to be set aside and not used.
