The 8x8 Matrix HDMI Switcher routes high definition video sources plus multi-channel (up to 7.1 channel) digital audio from any of the 8 HDMI sources to the any 8 displays at the same time. Because it is a matrix switcher, it allows any input to be routed to any output; or the same input to be routed to all outputs, or any combination.

The 8X8 HDMI matrix switch has 8 HDMI inputs and 8 HDMI outputs and an HDMI preview port which mirrors Output #1. It can be used in many applications that have 9 widescreens but is intended as a local troubleshooting tool for the you or your installer. It may also be used to send HDMI audio to an AV receiver providing you do not turn ON a display devise that might be connected to the Output of your audio receiver. Some older displays do not have the ability to decode anything other than 2 channel stereo and when connected to a receiver via HDMI.

Control of this 8x8 Matrix HDMI Switcher can be managed via its front-panel control, IR remote control, RS-232, or our optional RS-232 to Ethernet Converter. The RS-232 to Ethernet Converter allows control of the unit from anywhere in the world given you know how to write RS-232 code and have the correct serial Ethernet hardware.

An EDID learning function is added to increase its capability of compatible. EDID learning is only found in professional HDMI switchers and never less than $4,000, as this costs. It has seven (7) function key controls and worldwide EDID modes for HDTV resolutions.

All outputs will be set to the highest common resolution of all connected displays . Extended Display Identification (EDID) Data is a VESA standard data format that contains basic information about a HDTV and its capabilities, including vendor information, maximum image size, color characteristics, factory pre-set timings, frequency range limits, and character strings for the monitor name and serial number. The information is stored in the display and is used to communicate with the system through a Display Data Channel (DDC), which sites between the monitor and the source device. The system uses this information for configuration purposes, so the HDTV and system can work together.

An Rs232 interface is provided for interfacing with third party control. A windows-based control software package is included to provide complete control of the SB-5688 from a PC.
