The 2X2 HDMI Switcher / Splitter is not a standard 2 by 2 distribution amplifier. Instead, it features two independent inputs, an HDMI input, as well as a DVI input with optional digital SPDIF or optical audio. When the DVI/digital audio source is selected, the HDMI-2X2 automatically converts the signal to the HDMI format and routes it to both HDMI outputs. Front panel source selection provides switching between the HDMI and DVI/digital audio inputs. Multiple switcher / splitters may be linked for more than two outputs. NOTE 1: This switch is not matrix switcher and therefore will only route the same mirrored signal to both outputs at the same time. NOTE 2: This is a great switcher when one wants to send the video directly to an HDTV and another HDMI signal (for the audio) to an HDMI equipped surround sound receiver that decodes the HDMI audio to 5.1 or 7.1 channels. The HDMI-2X2 supports resolutions up to 1080p and is HDCP compliant. 2X2 HDMI Switcher / Splitter Application: Send an HDMI audio/video signal from a DVD player, as well as DVI and digital audio from a computer or other digital DVI device.
